Maier Museum of Art Participates in Museum Day

On Saturday, September 26, 2009, the Maier Museum of Art at Randolph College will participate in the fifth annual Museum Day, presented by Smithsonian magazine. A celebration of culture, learning and the dissemination of knowledge, Smithsonian‘s Museum Day reflects the spirit of the magazine, and emulates the free-admission policy of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington, DC-based properties.

Last year, upwards of 200,000 people attended Museum Day, with all 50 states plus Puerto Rico represented by over 900 participating museums, including the Maier Museum of Art.

Museum Day is a wonderful reminder to take advantage of the opportunity to view great art right in our own community. In addition to works from the Maier Museum’s collection, a special exhibition of work by Randolph College Art Faculty is currently on view through December 11. The exhibition, Teaching Begins Here, features work by Chris Cohen, David Kjeseth Johnson, Jim Muehlemann, and Kathy Muehlemann.

The Museum will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free (as always).

Listings and links to other participating museums can also be found at www.smithsonian.com/museumday.
