The Maier Museum of Art is excited to announce that we are developing an Ekphrastic poetry web page. What is Ekphrastic poetry, you ask? Simply put, Ekphrastic poetry is poetry written in response to visual art.
We invite poets of all ages to write poems in response to works held in the permanent collection of the Museum (limited to works represented in the Museum’s online catalog).
Poems submitted and received by March 31, 2010, will be evaluated by a juried panel, and those chosen will be published on the Museum’s website in late April 2010. Information about how to submit your poetry for consideration will be posted here on Monday, March 1, 2010. Please come back then for all the details, but meanwhile we hope you are inspired to begin writing your poems in response to the fabulous art in our collection.

Your online catalog is a wonderful resource and the idea of encouraging poets to participate in the art world should be very successful. We are enjoying similar success with an ekphrastic poetry and photography exhibition right now at Benton County Historical Museum in Oregon (www.bentoncountymuseum.org). Good luck with your endeavors!
