Ekphrastic Poetry

The Maier Museum of Art invites poets of all ages to submit poems written in response to works held in the permanent collection of the Museum for possible publication on our Ekphrastic poetry web page to be launched in April. What is Ekphrastic poetry, you ask? Simply put, Ekphrastic poetry is poetry written in response to visual art.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions are open year round. We accept poetry (five poems maximum) inspired by or in response to works held in the permanent collection of the Maier Museum of Art at Randolph College (limited to works with images represented in the Museum’s online catalog http://maier.randolphcollege.edu/$3383*9205880).

Identify the specific work of art that each of your poems addresses by title and artist. Also indicate your age category (adult, high school/middle school student, elementary school student) and include your contact information (name, mailing address, and email address.)

Poems submitted and received by March 31, 2010, will be evaluated by a juried panel, and those chosen will be published on the Museum’s website in late April 2010.

Writers may submit simultaneous submissions, and previously published work is acceptable as long as you have retained the rights to the poetry and acknowledgment information is provided (where the work has appeared and when. )

You may email work either in the body of an email or as a Word attachment to
museum@randolphcollege.edu
with a subject line reading “Poetry Submission: Your Name.”

or mail them to:
